Trauma & Resiliency
Sometimes the challenges we face stem from a traumatic event or series of events that stay with us over a long period of time. Have you experienced trauma – such as war, accident, illness, assault, disaster, loss, or childhood neglect, abuse, or bullying? As a result, does depression, anxiety, phobia, low self-esteem, or relationship difficulties impact you? These traumatic experiences are not only stored in your memory, but in your body. Some call it post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced-based and somatically-oriented therapy that has been shown to be a very effective way to treat PTSD. It can help you receive relief from the distressing thoughts, unwanted images, uncomfortable body sensations, crippling emotions, creativity blocks, and rigid ideas, without having to necessarily verbalize the details of the trauma.
The Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) is also a very effective somatically-oriented intervention. Through TRM you will learn about the biology of traumatic stress reactions as well as obtain specific skills to help you connect your mind and body, and return to balance after you have had a traumatic experience.
I have been trained in both EMDR and TRM. Whether you are a veteran or a survivor of single incident, developmental or ongoing trauma, we can work together to mitigate the impact it has on you.
"Everything can be taken from a man but the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances."
